Shopee became the top online shopping platform in Indonesia in the first half of 2021, from January to the middle of the year, judging by the total number of app downloads and total monthly active users based on the research results of mobile app market researcher company App Annie.
Last week, iPrice research revealed in its Q2-2021 report that Shopee is at the forefront of website visitor numbers. Shopee has 126.99 million web visitors per month. Shopee is in second place after Tokopedia which averages 147.79 million website visitors per month.
However, are there still many web visitors in Indonesia?

Referring to SimilarWeb data, Wednesday (05/10/2021), and looking at the level of application visits during August 2021, it turns out that there are 26.92 million shopee daily actives users (DAU) who access from Android mobile devices in Indonesia.
If added to the number of 31 days in August, unique DAU in Shopee Indonesia in the SimilarWeb platform is equivalent to the number of monthly visits of 834,520,000 visits.
Meanwhile, Tokopedia had an average daily active user of 7,882,000 in the same period. Using the same calculation method, Tokopedia had an average active user in the app of 244.34 million people during that period.
Thus, the number of Tokopedia visits on the web and apps reached 392.13 million visits, from 244.34 million app visitors and 147.79 million web visitors, referring to IPrice data as of June 2021 which is also assumed to be unchanged in August.
This calculation is a simple calculation on the most conservative basis, where one unique DAU is assumed to only visit an e-commerce app once per day — although the original could be larger than that because of the same user activity that repeats in the app.
Through that calculation, Shopee came in first place in terms of the total number of app downloads and total monthly active users, with other e-commerce scoring below.
Tokopedia is in second place with a total of 392.13 million visits from the web and apps per month, followed by Lazada with 377.04 million, Bukalapak with 79.18 million and Blibli with 28.77 million visits.
The high number of app visits on Shopee can be seen from the results of various campaigns to discounts to increase sales. In Indonesia alone, the number of orders for MSME products during Shopee Super Shopping Day 9.9 increased up to 6 times compared to a normal day.
Globally, this activity was able to record a record purchase of 1.8 million in 1 minute.
In addition, as an e-commerce application, Shopee also presents a variety of promotions through various games to live streaming that can be done in its application.
On the other hand Tokopedia along with other e-commerce players such as Lazada, Blibli and Bukalapak, also continue to strive to bring various features and services that can attract users.
